Hi, friends! A couple of things:
1. My buddy and former work spouse Nate Messer, along with his colleague Ebony McKenzie, have started a blog, Opening Story, that deals with issues that involve instructional coaching, but through a very different lens than mine. They are exploring their own identities and stories that have brought them to where they are right now (which is to say an instructional coach and a principal). Their pasts are different racially, economically, culturally, and no doubt a few other ways, and this results in some very deep and interesting entries. Their go-to pattern is for each to write about the same prompt, then to join together to podcast about it, and the results are really interesting. If you’re into the deeper feelings behind what makes us educators and what makes us tick, I highly suggest you subscribe.
It’s summer!

In the past, I have made it a point to completely disengage from all things work-related for the month of July. Right now, I am feeling like this summer will be different: I may engage in a little more reading and podcast-listening around my job than the usual zero. This is the year of a family staycation, so I don’t have a whole lot on my plate, but still, sitting back, doing housework, taking care of my body, and generally trying to be a healthy human outside of my work role isn’t a terrible thing.
All that is to say there’s no promise of me continuing to pump something out every week here. But I do hope you’ll be around when I get going again in August! I appreciate you reading—it keeps me thinking.
So—enjoy July!
